Matthew is a freelance Drama & Theatre Practitioner specialising in community and youth arts through a person centred approach. Growing up in Grimsby, Matthew worked in outreach for his local church via their puppet team; going into community settings such as festivals, nursing homes, and youth groups. This led to a fascination with using drama to carry a message, and how it could be used with groups as a means to give a voice to many who so often feel voiceless.
Matthew gained a 1st class honours degree Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education. Since returning to Grimsby Matthew has engaged in running Youth Theatres for underprivileged young people via community arts groups Fusion Creative in Grimsby, and in Hull for the charity National Youth Arts Trust. He has also developed his practice through his work with La Luna in schools. This includes running weekly singing and storytelling sessions for children with complex needs at Humberston Park Special School. He has also contributed to the Transition songwriting workshops with Year 6 and 7 students, and the Key Stage 1 Singing Festival workshops and performances. Matthew has just been accepted onto the Best Words programme to develop his writing which will enable him to write new work for his community drama groups. In this new project, Matthew will lead on the development of drama activity for workshops and will co-facilitate delivery across the project.
